All air conditioners, after regular usage, become infected with “microbial contamination”—This contamination includes fungi, mould and bacteria. Air Conditioners are the perfect environment for such contaminants, which are constantly airborne every time you switch the air conditioner on. Mould combined with humidity can be a potent mix.

Is Mold in Your Air Conditioner Dangerous? – Cielo Breez (cielowigle.com)

Yes! A dirty coil means the unit has to work harder to cool the air because there is less clean surface area for the hot air to pass over. This makes the unit work harder with less efficiency.

Most air conditioners should last about 10 years or so. But well-cared-for air conditioners could run for 15 to 20 years. Regular servicing can significantly enhance the lifespan of your air conditioner, allowing you to enjoy its benefits for a much longer period. Proper maintenance ensures that your air conditioner is functioning optimally, reducing the likelihood of breakdowns and costly repairs.

If you experience a persistent and unpleasant smell in the room, then you need to check if it is coming from the air-con unit. The primary cause of the bad odor is the build-up of mould and other bacteria particles. The smell might also come from a dead animal in the unit, such a lizard or rats. A chemical wash would be the perfect mode of cleaning to stop or remove such a foul smell. We’ll be able to remove the mould build-up and also prevent it from growing back anytime sooner.
